Based in Singapore and a legal practitioner since 1999, Marlon is actively involved and assists in a variety of corporate/commercial and cross-border/regional transactions in Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar. His diverse practice portfolio spans mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, investments, corporate restructurings, employment, data privacy, and regulatory and compliance work.
In addition to his corporate and commercial work in Singapore, where he is a Foreign Practitioner registered to practice in permitted areas of Singapore law, Marlon has developed significant knowledge and work experience in the firm’s robust regional practice, particularly in the Indochina region. He helps oversee the firm’s Indonesia practice group, providing advisory and transactional services to clients on foreign investments and acquisitions in Indonesia as well as cross-border/multi-jurisdictional transactions and matters involving Indonesia laws.
As a member of the firm’s Myanmar practice group, he collaborates with our Yangon-based lawyers on advisory and transactional work on a variety of corporate and commercial matters, including foreign investments and corporate restructurings in Myanmar. Being Philippine law-qualified, he is also able to advise and assist clients on Philippine law-related issues, transactions and enquiries.
He was admitted as an Attorney and Counselor-at-Law in the Philippines in 1999, where he engaged in litigation and corporate practice in SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan, a leading Philippine law firm. In 2003-2005, he served as special legal counsel in a Philippine anti-graft commission and was part of the delegation representing the Philippines in treaty negotiations at the United Nations Offices in Vienna, Austria, for the United Nations Convention Against Corruption as well as related agreements involving the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime.
